På den internationale Isaac konference i Toronto i 2016 deltog to bestyrelsesmedlemmer i en workshop med Romski og Sevcik. Sjældent har 3 timer været så inspirerende. Deres beskrivelse og “punktering” af nogle seje myter på ASK området blev fremlagt med ildhu og humor. Vi var enige om, at de to måtte vi have til Danmark.
Desværre er det stadig sådan aktuelt, at fagfolk møder ofte myter, som f.eks. at sproget bedre kommer, hvis man ikke implementerer f.eks. en talecomputer og mange andre "false beliefs".

Myths and Realities in AAC Service Delivery
Myths are widely held but false beliefs. This presentation will provide an overview of myths that have hampered the use of AAC with both children and adults with disabilities. We will provide evidence to refute the appropriateness of these myths and present strategies for how to debunk them.

Parent Coached AAC Language Intervention for Toddlers and Preschoolers
This workshop will focus on coaching parents to use AAC language intervention strategies with their toddlers and preschoolers. We will describe the role of receptive and expressive language skills, the importance of speech generating devices (SGD), the parents’ role, and protocols for implementing parent-coached augmented language interventions.
